Respiratory Substrate

Respiratory Substrate : The organic substances undergoing oxidative breakdown during respiration are called ‘respiratory substrates’. The most common example is glucose, which is obtained from digestion of carbohydrate.

By the definition, Polysaccharide is a carbohydrate (e.g. starch, cellulose, or glycogen) whose molecules consist of a number of sugar molecules bonded together.

Hence, we can say that Glucose and oxygen react together in cells to produce carbon dioxide and water and releases energy.
